One-On-One Coaching For Children's Books

So you have a wonderful idea for a children’s book, but you’re overwhelmed on where to even start? Skip the hours of general tutorials and get the personalized help you really need. Get the one on one help you need in the areas you need it most.

Catherine Parry is a children’s book author and illustrator with two of her own books under belt, starting a third, and an illustration project completed for a client as well. Cat has even storyboarded for a short film. She spent about 15 years of her life in a variety of art classes. While in these classes she learned how much the choices made like: value, color, and perspective can tell a story within art. That is the knowledge and approach she uses when creating the illustrations for her children’s books. 

When Catherine decided to create a children’s book and then self publish she had no idea of where to start. Hours upon hours were spent researching what she could. Now with two books completed, and another book illustrated, she is ready to help guide you on your journey whether that is becoming a children’s book author or an illustrator… or even both!

Please note that Sunday sessions close out on Thursday and Thursday sessions close out on Sunday. (For example, if it is Friday, schedule for the following Thursday at the earliest)This allows enough time for Cat to go over the sent items to make the most of your session. 

Children's Books 101- Brand new to children’s books and need help in understanding: margins, bleeds, gutter line, word counts, etc.? Don’t worry, Cat will help you through all of this a more. Leave feeling confident in going forward with your book. You will also receive a reference sheet to follow along, take notes on, and have it to refer back to when you’re feeling confused.

1 session -1 hr 

Manuscript- Have a great idea for a story, but feel stuck on developing it further? Feel confident in your story, but your characters need some work? Not sure you are targeting the right age range? This is the package for you. In this package, Cat will analyze your manuscript and help you develop and perfect your story and characters.

2 -1 hr sessions Second session is scheduled within 4 weeks of original session

Mood Boards/Character Sketches - So you finally nailed down your manuscript, but you can’t decide on the feeling of the world you want to create or how you want your characters to look, this is the package for you. Cat will help you nail down the style to help elevate your story, create a mood board to give you constant direction while illustrating, and have reference sketches for your characters too. Also decide on mediums to help lift that creative block.

1 session 45 min 

Storyboarding- Manuscript? Check. Character Sketches? Check. Now you’re stuck on blocking off your manuscript. Cat is here to help. She will go over your manuscript, help you block it off, and then story board with rough sketches. Cat will also help teach you how to know what information to share on the page and where to block off your manuscript.

1 session -1 hour

Sketch/Illustration Critique- Looking for some feedback on sketches before you start your official illustrations? Finished your illustrations and feel like you need to tweak something, but can’t figure out what? This is the right package for you. Cat can help give feedback on sketches or illustrations to make them captivating for both child and adult!

This package is also a great selection for those who are looking for portfolio feedback.
